Two Years

"Praise the Lord, O my soul;
all my inmost being, praise His holy name.
Praise the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all His benefits--
who forgives all your sins
and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit
and crowns you with love and compassion,
who satisfies your desires with good things
so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's."
Psalm 103:1-5
Two years ago today, my oncologist told me that there was no more cancer in my body, and that I should go home and tell my boys that their mama would live to be an old lady. On that day I made a promise to God: I promised that I would never let August 30th go by without remembering and celebrating the gift of His miracle.
"I will remember the deeds of the Lord;
yes, I will remember your miracles.
I will meditate on all your works
and consider all your mighty deeds.
Your ways, O God, are holy.
What God is so great as our God?
You are the God who performs miracles;
You display your power among the peoples."
Psalm 77:11-14

I have this amazing circle of friends, and today they helped me celebrate! Kelly threw a "No Cancer Party" at her house. In case you're wondering what one does at a No Cancer Party...it involves dessert, heartfelt sharing, and tears. The party accomplished two things: 1) I left feeling incredibly loved, and 2) our God was given the glory and the credit He is due for what He has done!

These friends of mine...they shared their hearts, and I love them for that. I love the challenge to pray big and expect miracles. I love that my experience is theirs, too, and that we are all better Christ-followers because of my cancer.

We only get one go-round, and we're not promised anything except that we have a Savior who walks every step with us. I want this miracle-life of mine to matter, and when it's over--five years from now or fifty--I want to hear, "Well done, good and faithful servant." I choose to remember, to celebrate, and to get on with living.
"How can I repay the Lord
for all His goodness to me?
I will lift up the cup of salvation
and call on the name of the Lord.
I will fulfill my vows to the Lord
in the presence of all His people."
Psalm 116:12-14

P.S. After the No Cancer Party, I came home to this:

Blessed, and so very, very thankful.

So happy to see the miracle that you are today. Seems like just yesterday when we were crying, just trying to grasp the concept of cancer. I'll never forget it and I'll never forget seeing God's perfect strength through you. God is so good! I'm giving him praise now! Love you SO much!
